Urgent . My file is now corrupt or something, I lost all my work

Hello. For the first time in years this happened.

(context: everything I do I save on sketch cloud, not locally)

I worked on a dashboard design last night, did a lot of work on it. This morning I’m opening the file and its empty, what happened? I tried duplicating the file to see if it fixes, but it gives me an outdated version. I lost a lot of important things. Is there any chance to get that back?

Hello @bryanmaxim

Let’s take a look at that file on our side. For that, we’ll need some information about your account, which it’ll be better to share in private. Could you send an email to productsupport@sketch.com, including a URL to the document?

Also, well need Support Access activated in casse we need to look at the file ourselves. Note that only admins in your workspace can activate it.

In the meantime, there’s something you can try yourself. Since you worked recently on the file, you could recover it by extracting it from our cached Cloud documents:

  1. Quit the Mac app.
  2. Open Finder.
  3. Select GoGo to Folder… or press ⇧⌘G.
  4. Enter the following path in the dialog that appears and hit Enter:
    ~/Library/Application Support/com.bohemiancoding.sketch3/CloudDocuments
  5. The files are within folders, if there are many, look for the last modified date on Finder to locate the one you’re looking for.
  6. Once you’ve located the file, copy and paste it to your Desktop.
  7. Select the copy on your Desktop and press ⌘I (CMD+I) to display the file’s information window.
  8. Locate the “Name and extension” section and change the extension from “.sketchcloud” to “.sketch

Once open, and if it looks as expected, you can upload it again to your workspace. It should upload it as a new version and you can continue working from there.

In any case, we’ll need the information requested above as well in case this doesn’t solve the issue.

Done, I just sent the email now. Sadly I didnt found that file in the CloudDocuments folder inside my finder.

Reporting back after talking through email: we could solve the problem in the end, the document was on our servers :tada:
