Right now, both the Open panel and the Export panel share the same “memory” of where you were last in the Finder. Say you open a document in a folder, perhaps “Documents”. The next time you export an asset, it will default to the last folder you opened, in this case Documents, not necessarily the last folder you exported to. I believe the Open/Save panels should restore only to the places you’ve opened and save documents, and the Export panels should only restore to the places you’ve exported assets.
Hello @kylehalevi, thanks for the suggestion.
This is an exciting find! We’ve been doing some tests. After revising several other native apps, like Apple’s Preview or Keynote, we’ve realized that this is, in fact, the expected behavior. While testing this alongside other forum teammates, we’ve learned that your selection in any File > Export
menu won’t change the behavior of the File > Open
or File > Save
items. In contrast, these other menus will change the default selection in the Export
ones.
As a fully native app, we always try to follow Apple’s guidelines, so I’m afraid that although your request makes sense, we lean towards keeping it the same way. Sorry!
It’s been a very interesting find, nonetheless. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for looking in to this! And I agree, if that’s the system behavior then Sketch is doing the right thing by following the pattern.
