Please help!
Hi @max,
About this situation—we don’t see it as an issue. The label system that existed in the inspector in version 66 (a version launched in 2020) was gradually phased out to reduce visual clutter and simplify the interface.
That said, I understand how the previous system was valuable for your workflow. I see it has a valuable use case that highlights how even small UI changes can make a big impact.
While we don’t have plans to bring labels back in the same form, I will share this feedback with the rest of the team.
Feel free to share with us more insights that could help us make a case for this situation.
Cheers
Hi @Cris,
Thank you for your reply!
Labels are essential for me.
I clearly explained my case. I have build visual programming system on top of Sketch that heavily depends on Symbols and Overrides. On some Symbols I have 20+ fields to configure the logic. So it is impossible to understand what belongs to what without labels.
I could not imagine that you will remove labels, it ruins whole workflow for me.
- There were no visual clutter, it was a good UI with labels. Now it is a mess.
- How it happens that you came to the idea to remove labels? What was the motivation?
What is next? Remove labels in elevators? Remove labels from keyboards? We world is getting nuts!
Please return labels, or make them optional via Settings if you absolutely hate them. I deserve to know what I am editing.
p.s.: Labels were not hurting anybody. Their absence does.
Please, tell me. When should I expect an answer for this Issue?
Thank you!
Hi Max,
We understand that the removal of label names in the Inspector impacts your workflow—and you’re not alone in valuing that level of control and visibility. As mentioned, we’ve already passed your suggestion along to the product team for consideration.
That said, I want to clarify: this isn’t a bug or an oversight. The current behavior is the result of intentional design decisions made over time, aimed at simplifying the Inspector and making room for newer features. We know changes like this can be disruptive, especially when they affect long-standing habits, and we genuinely appreciate you taking the time to speak up about it.
Your idea to make labels an optional setting is a thoughtful one, and while we can’t promise a specific outcome or timeline, your feedback is on our radar.
I will take this opportunity to invite you consider using new feature in Sketch, where you can override directly on the canvas without the need to search for the tag on the inspector panel. I understand it is not the same, but it simplifies locating the correct layer without the need hunting it down in the inspector panel.
I hope this helps!
Cheers.
Thank you for your reply! Will try to use direct edit and maybe it will bring new workflows, but please consider returning optional labels? Thank you!
