What is the optimal way to automate organising the symbols page?

Part of my workflow to keep symbols organised has been to use the Symbol Organizer plugin by Jason Burns, however, this is no longer maintained of supported with the latest Sketch updates.

How do others avoid having to manually organise their symbols page? Is there an alternative or a new feature in Sketch that I’ve missed? Do people just rely on the built in components view?

Would be great to hear some solutions otherwise organising the symbols page is going to be painful.

I don’t think there is a good manual way to organize symbols. I really hate manually organizing anything, so I’ve also been using Symbol Organizer plugin so far. But I think Sketch will at some point introduce some tools to organize symbols on canvas which will rely on the way they are organized in the Components view. That’s why it is still worth organizing them neatly there.

There isn’t a direct replacement for Symbol Organizer in newer versions of Sketch. Most people rely on the Components Panel, which is searchable and filterable, instead of keeping the Symbols page perfectly tidy. For cleanup, plugins like Rename It or Sketch Manager help maintain consistent naming and grouping. The key is to enforce naming conventions early, then the Components view does most of the heavy lifting.
