Unwanted folder created when exporting frame with parenthesis in name

I’m using the Mac app, and have noticed that with recent versions, when I drag the proxy image from the export panel, it’s creating a folder rather than a single image. I think I’ve narrowed this down to being caused by the frame/artboard having a parenthesis in the name – which is common for many of the things I create.

This happens with a single frame selected, and with only a single output format selected.

Hey Chris, welcome to the Forum!

Parentheses in layer names shouldn’t create a folder when you export, only if you use a forward slash /. Please see the video below:

Can you share your Sketch and macOS versions, please? Thank you :folded_hands:

I didn’t know you can export with drag & drop like that

Thanks, that was it! Due to our naming conventions, all frames with parentheses also have a slash in them).

@leohans You can also drag layers/groups/frames directly from the Layer List to the Finder in the same way, even if you haven’t applied any export settings.

And as a bonus, if you hold down the Option key, you can drag from the Layer List on to your Sketch canvas to insert a single bitmap version of whatever you’re dragging.
