Our devs often want to have a quick export of a screen they see on Sketch Cloud, and right now it’s saving everything as a .zip file along with the folder structure of the frame name.
It would be great to have an easier way to quickly export any frame as an image without the file structure. I’ve been using a “Save to Downloads” menu action (accessible when I click the Share button next to “Export selected” to accomplish this, but it would be great to have it built-in in the Mac and Web apps
I also saw that you can copy any frame (only in the Mac app though) that you can then paste anywhere, with the only caveat that it copies a 1x (low quality) version of the screen.
Hi Sam,
This is already possible! Your devs can export any frame from the web app:
- Open the document on the web app
- Open the frame you want to export
- Press I on your keyboard to open the Inspect panel
- Click on Export as… and select the format/resolution you need
- Done!
And the great thing about the web app is that you can add any Viewers you need, free of charge!
Tip: you can also export from Canvas view by pressing I to enable Inspect mode and then right-clicking the frame you need and selecting it from the contextual menu. This will ensure you export the whole frame in the format you choose.
We hope this helps!

This is precisely the experience I was suggesting should be improved
The “export as” downloads a zip file, which is overkill when you only need 1 image.
It also exports everything using the file structure (for example Screens/Profile/Default.png instead of just Default.png)

Hi Sam,
The key is to select the frame. If you export a layer that has a file structure in its name, you’ll get the zip file. Also, if you select more than one file format you’ll get a zip file that contains all of them, but other than that, you should be able to export the frame as an image.
Let us know if this helps!
A quick update: if your frame itself has a file structure in its name, like “Screens/Home” you’ll get the zip file too.
Symbol source frames are a common example of this. We’ll look into this scenario, but I hope the current flow helps
Right, most of the time the devs are exporting full screens, which in our design system are Symbol sources because we use those screens in other librairies.
This is tricky in the mac app too. We want to give the symbol a proper name so that it’s organized weekly in our design system, but we don’t want that file structure to be used when simply exporting an image of that screen.
It could be a 4th option here, basically just “Layer.svg”
