Since updating to Athens, I’m dealing with this super annoying issue.
Every time I’m trying to drag my cursor to select multiple objects, it simply doesn’t let me select anything in like 90% of the cases. It doesn’t matter if I’m using the mouse or trackpad. Every time I hold down the left click and try to drag the cursor to select, the selection box just doesn’t come up at all. Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn’t. What throws me off the most is that it mostly happens right after selecting an object ( Please reference to my video ). This bug appears whether I’m making a selection on the frame directly and on the canvas. It’s super nasty and is kinda driving me crazy. I tried everything, even changing my mouse settings and sensitivity. I only had that since the new update.
Also, every time I try to open Sketch settings, the whole app just crashes.
We appreciate you reaching out. I’m sorry for this situation, but I’m sure we can help you.
I would like to explore this a bit more. A few things that would really help us narrow this down:
Mouse model: Could you let me know the model you’re using? Also, have you tried using just the trackpad or a different mouse to see if the issue behaves any differently?
Safe Mode: Can you try launching Sketch in Safe Mode (hold Shift while opening the app) and check if the selection box works more reliably? This will temporarily disable plugins in case one is interfering.
Crash logs: Since you mentioned the app crashes when opening Settings, we’d love to take a look at any crash reports submitted. To do that, could you send us an email at productsupport@sketch.com with the email address linked to your Sketch account? (for privacy reasons, we advise you to avoid sharing this information here).
Let me know more and you can rest assure we’ll stick with you until this is sorted.
Hello, I also have the same issue with the selection box not appearing. This issue occurs whether I use a mouse or trackpad, I can’t find a way to reliably reproduce but also notice it seems to happen more often after manipulating an object. i.e. in a new document, draw a rectangle, resize it and try to draw a selection box around it.
This is occurring for me in Sketch 2015.1.3 on a Macbook Pro M4 on the new Tahoe Beta
I also have this issue, I recently reset my Mac from scratch (Now on Tahoe) and reinstalled Sketch.
It appears to be an issue with my Logitech MX Master 3 - when I turn off Bluetooth (disconnect the mouse, it fixes it). When it’s connected it stops working with the trackpad also, as others said before.
Obviously, I use my mouse for ergonomic benefit, so this is a pretty bad compatibility issue. I believe this is the most-owned mouse for designers, too.
We’ve been trying to reproduce this issue and, in fact, many of us are users of this mouse (and other iterations of the MX Master) and we’ve never seen this issue before.
Could you confirm the version of Sketch and macOS you’re using? Also, is this happening with any document, or is it only on Libraries or with document templates?
Let us know! We’d like to get to the bottom of this.
I have another friend with the same issue, same Sketch Version & same Mouse, we’re on MacOS is Tahoe 26.1 (though it occurred on Sequoia) and Sketch is 101.9, can’t update though!
So far it appears to be happening on various files, I’ve not tested within Libraries yet, or a file from scratch.
Hello @evomc, I must admit I’m a bit puzzled by this issue, as we haven’t received cases like yours often, and we’re still unable to reproduce it, despite having the required hardware.
This is a long, long shot, but I’m wondering if this could be related to the security configuration in macOS. For instance, in Sketch, the last couple of macOS releases imposed some restrictions on using the Colour Panel if you have not activated the screen recording permissions. So let’s check something:
Go to System Settings > Privacy and Security.
Scroll down and open the option Screen & System Audio Recording.
Make sure all of the Logitech apps (and also Sketch) are activated.
Perhaps there’s a macro or gesture configured in your mouse that is triggering macOS from preventing clicking, or perhaps it’s a lack of permissions in Sketch after activating some of the tools that require what macOS considers “screen recording”.
Let me know if that solved the issue! If not, I would like to see the issue in action the moment it happens, could you send a screen recording our way if that happens again?
Hello again @evomc. We were re-reading your case, and we noticed you mentioned 101.9 + Tahoe as your Sketch and macOS versions. There was an issue with Tahoe and 101.9 (or earlier) about this, which we noticed some time ago. Essentially, Tahoe triggered this issue in 101.9, causing problems with registering mouse clicks.
In your case, updating to Athens (2025.1.4) or later should solve the issue. You can see our Mac releases page here. Hope it helps!
