Hello there. I’ve downloaded Sketch Athens on the side to start new project and try things, although I’m not ready to convert old projects into the new workflow and layer types for now.
Having both versions open at the same time is buggy. I’m being disconnected from my Sketch account, also they share their ‘recent files’ and want to open closed files by the other version.
Is this not recommended? Should I be using the Beta version instead? Is the Beta version different from the release version right now?
Also, am I being overly careful? Maybe converting my project to 2025.1 won’t make much difference? I just don’t have the time to deal with any problems that could occur right now.
Thank you.
Hello, That could indeed be problematic in subtle ways. The two versions store their preferences / recent files / libraries and all the other long-term-persisted files in the same spot.
I do understand the caution. Although 2025.1 is a stable update and I can’t say that there’s bugs I know of that would be problematic for you, upgrading your tools in the middle of a project, I understand the hesitation.
One thing you could do is use the beta: See the future of Sketch! Download the latest Beta · Sketch. This version is really separated from the official Sketch variant, and stores its libraries, defaults etc in a separate location guaranteeing that separation you are looking for

I think I’ll go ahead and use the Beta, seems like a much better solution.
Thanks.
