Prototyping : "Auto Link to Right Artboard"

In prototype mode, what is the logic behind “Auto Link to Right Artboard” ? Is this basically artboard to artboard position ? or does Artboard order, etc come into play.

I have set this up (incorrectly it seems!) where it opens a symbol (overlay) on the artboard ! I cant see any logic or pattern why its this particular symbol that is shown when I choose “Auto Link to Right Artboard”.

Also, would be nice to include the “Auto Link to Previous” in the prototype inspector selection rather than go to Prototype > Interaction > …

*Also looks like “Auto Link to Previous” from the main menu bar simply selects “Close Overlay” in the inspector view.

Hi Mark.
I was all set to record a quick demo, showing “Auto Link to Right Artboard” in action, when I noticed that it is no longer working correctly in Sketch v100 as it does in v99.
FWIW, what it is meant to do is simply as the name suggests, and as the arrows on the Canvas show. Any Interactions set up in this way will automatically link to whatever is the next Artboard to the right of it.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I’ve filed a bug-report, and we hope to have it resolved soon.

I accidently found a bug ! In your demo can this be reversed also ? auto go to the left (like a previous button) ?

Well, there’s two ways to look at this.

Yes, you can change “Auto Link to Right Artboard” to instead be “Auto Link to Left Artboard”. The way to do this is to change the Artboard Export option to instead say “Right to Left” in your Layers tab within your Settings. But that won’t necessarily be the same as a “Previous” button, depending on which Artboard brought you to this location in your Prototype. It will just be whatever is to the left on your Canvas, regardless of whether you’ve visited this Artboard or not.

So if it’s an actual “Previous” button that you want, then you already have that option available to you in the same dropdown, as shown below. This will take you back to whatever Artboard you were on before this one in your prototype, regardless of what order you have them laid out.

Ok so i still want artboards to go left to right. Im looking to create a component that would work as it were published on a site to assist the user when navigating to the next page and previous page if and when required.

I only get the “previous artboard option” when i am selecting the artboard rather than a component (when i select a component / symbol) this is not an option in the ‘Target’ drop-down menu.

The component is the previous / next arrows shown in the original post.

I can share a file if it helps.

This feature would be less confusing if you flipped the words “right” and “to”

Might be me being British, but I read it as “auto link to correct artboard”

@Ash in Scotland we would have it say “gonnae go right” !

@marktmcewan If I were in Yorkshire, I’d be “t’right”

That shouldn’t be happening. The “Previous Artboard” option should definitely be available to you.
So yes please, send your file to us at productsupport@sketch.com and we can take a look at it for you. Put something like “From the Forum” in the subject, and I’ll make sure to pick it up.
