Hi, I’ve created a custom sized artboard with custom layout settings can I save this artboard as a template I can use in any new projects, I know you can do this within a document, but is there a way to use this artboard when I open a brand new sketch file and go to add a new artboard?
Hi Larrie,
Long time no see! Welcome back!
Add your template in a Library and it will be available to use in any Sketch documents you work with! Let me know how it goes and if you run into any issues.
And btw, Artboards are evoliving into Frames in the latest Sketch version, but you can still create Frame templates in the exact same way as Artboards.
Hi Jorge, I added the template to a library, but I can’t work out how to use it in a new document
Hey @Larrie!
After you add the Template to your Library and have saved the changes to the Library (either by saving a version with ⌃⌘S or closing the Library), then you can:
- Open the document where you want to use the Template
- Make sure the Library is enabled on your app Settings (or Document Settings).
- Then press F to enable the Frame Tool
- Then using the dropdown in the Inspector (top right), select the Libray where you added the Template and you should see it available for insert.
Let us know if this helps!
That’s so cool thanks, I’ve never used my own library before
Yeah, libraries are super useful for reusing all kinds of components: symbols, layer styles, text styles and artboard templates!
Feel free to send any other questions you have.
Thanks, I appreciate it
Hello, I am replying to this topic because since Athens release, I can’t find anymore how do I decide a frame to be a template. Where is the option ? Thank you
Tip: Anytime you want to search for an action, try the Command Bar, it’s really useful for finding things! In this case, you can select a frame, then press S and type “template”. Check out the video below:
