how many users are finding Athens a collosal struggle?
My experience has been this:
nothing works properly anymore. SImple things that you would take for granted - like precisely aligning objects, pasting objects in place, symbol library has turned into a maze of trying to find things, the selection of objects is ridiculous ( the cursor flipping to rotate or resize over a huge hover area.. making it impossible to simply Select 2 or more objects) Arg - I could make an extensive list of all the buggy issues .. but I don’t have time for this. It’s your job to usability test the heck out of this and find the issues. So many broken things now that used to be perfect.
The latest issue I’ve discovered is.. if you detach a symbol and all it’s contents - it works but also creates it as a part of a frame! Now the hierarchy is totally whacked. If you try to copy and paste an element somewhere else it a random time wasting exercise in frustration. The workarounds for doing such a simple task are mind numbing. Basically you have to ungroup every single frame to make the tree make sense. Zero value in this.
In the same example I detached then duplicated a rectangle. Attempting to align the 2 rectangles with the exact same properties on the same layer was impossible. Center align horizontally and one of the rectangles moved to the right by a few pixels. What??
Very perplexed over all this..
Unfortunately, this is true. At the moment, there is so many small bugs and issues that I cannot even properly describe them or write steps to reproduce. But I believe it will get better soon.
I certainly hope so.. although the clock is ticking. Our organization is currently discussing alternative solutions. In the past half hour I’ve noticed a few bugs that didn’t exist before:
share a spec to the dev team. Before you could copy the link with the inspect panel open. Now even with the link showing’inspect’ at the end of the URL.. it no longer opens with the inspect panel open (it used to). So now users or viewers land on a page and nothing is clickable.. and they don’t know where to start.
a recurring issue is pasting an object and it pastes it behind another object. You tyr to move it in front using the shortcut key CMD+ ] - and sometimes you just get a beep sound. Okay so go to the arrange menu and bring to front.. fine but now it’s placed it out of the hierarchy and although it appears on screeen correctly - when viewed in the Cloud it’s gone!
Arg..
I could go on but I just don’t have time to list all the things that are screwed up..
I feel the same way. I report issues/bugs/regressions almost every week, the team is super responsive and helpful but unfortunately it seems like they’re busy building new features. I really wish they would take 6 months to just work on fixing bugs, improving performance and adding small quality-of-life features.
One example: Sketch has been taking 50GB+ RAM since the latest update for all our team members, and with the help of the Sketch team and a lot of back and forth and me collecting logs etc we were able to identify that embedded fonts were the issue. So we disabled those… which completely breaks dev handoff. But no ETA on an actual fix for something that seems so core and completely breaks our workflow.
We also had major performance issues with symbol swapping in the past, which required a ton of debugging and investigation on our end to report in a way that increases our chances for the team to fix it (and they have, and I was so grateful).
I’ve seen several people write about bad performance in this forum and they quickly get dismissed and the thread gets locked.
Or a few months ago when Undo/redo randomly stopped working in specific cases (talk about a nightmare of a bug).

This is 100% how I feel about Sketch. There are so many things broken or that don’t work correctly, but I don’t have the time to report every single one of them, so I’ll focus on the ones I really want to see fixed. I shouldn’t have to do this.
I love Sketch, the app, the company. The work they did with Stacks and Liquid Glass is amazing. Switching to Figma would be a pretty big undertaking for us and I really want to avoid it, but like you people on my team (myself included) are losing patience with all the small hiccups that keep happening with every new release.
