I’m facing an issue with interactions in nested symbols in Sketch, and I’d appreciate some help figuring it out.
When I try to set up or view interactions for a nested symbol, the Prototype panel displays a message saying the interaction “Cannot be found” (or something similar). Here’s some context about the problem:
What I’m trying to do:
I have a parent symbol that contains several nested symbols.
I want to add interactions to these nested symbols (e.g., link them to specific artboards or triggers).
What’s happening:
When I open the Prototype panel, the interactions I set up earlier are missing or show an error indicating they can’t be found.
I’ve already checked if the nested symbols still exist in my library, and everything seems to be in place.
Has anyone experienced something similar or has any suggestions on how to fix this? Could it be related to how interactions work with nested symbols, or might it be a bug?
Welcome to the Forum! Thank you for reporting this.
If you add interaction links to library symbols, these should be relative, like autolinking to the right artboard, or auto link to the previous artboard. Otherwise, the interactions will show as missing because prototype links work between layers in the same document, but not in different ones.
Example of a relative link on a symbol instance from a library
But even if the interaction target shows as missing, you can set the target you need on the document you’re working on. Just click on the dropdown and set the target you need.
I hope this is useful and if I missed anything, could you share with us a sample document? You can do it here in the Forum or to our support email productsupport@sketch.com
