Hello,
I have created a letter D using Text and then converted into an outline. I would like to cancel part of the D on the right hand side as shown by the photo.
I am newbie and I really do not know where to start from. I was thinking to overlap another shape but the borders of the D are not square and I cannot recreate one shape to perfect overlap it.
Hi Daniele.
There is an easy way to do this. Just draw a rectangle overlapping the D where you want the cut-out portion, select both layers, and then apply a Subtract boolean operation.
It will now be considered one layer, but the separate shapes will remain editable – so you can access the hidden rectangle part via the Layer List and can adjust it at any point later on if you need to.
Would you please explain the logic behind? The rectangle has a different color but Subtract cuts out a portion from the D, I actually do not understand why it is working.
The short version is that the top shape simply acts as a “cookie cutter” of sorts, cutting out a section from the bottom shape wherever they overlap. But because you have chosen to “Subtract”, the app knows that you don’t want the top layer to remain visible. Try with the other boolean operation types to see the different results you can get.
