How to copy frames to other document without symbols?

Before Copenhagen I could just drag stuff from the layer list between documents. With the new document/tabs list it appears I can’t do that anymore. This is a great example of something super basic and standard I expect a mature app like Sketch to support.

So I went ahead and copy pasted my frames to the new document, which also copy pasted all the symbols those frames use into that new document. In the past when I dragged frames it would keep the symbols links to the original document rather than copy pasting them… what’s the best practice to copy frames to a new document but while keeping symbols linked to the original document rather than copy pasting those as well?

Hi, Sam

This hasn’t changed. If you click+drag frames or pages with local symbols to another document, you’ll get new local symbol sources on the other document too. Same goes for copy/paste.

However, if your symbols come from a library, you can click+drag or copy/paste, and instances will be linked to the original library. There will be no additional symbol sources created. Here’s a quick video:

Bottom line, copying library symbol instances will keep linking to the library; while instances from local symbols will create new symbol sources when pasting in a different document.

This behavior hasn’t changed in a good while. But I may be missing something. Please let me know. :folded_hands:
