How do we reset an animation when no-longer hovering?

So I have a button with an animation set to smart animate triggering on hover, but how do we get it back to the start when the mouse is no longer hovering? even if we build it as an overlay, it still needs a click to close. Does anyone have a solution?

Would be cool to be able to use the smart animate on these too rather than just unhiding a layer on hover

Hi Dale,

Indeed, hover interactions work with layer visibility (you’re always in the same Artboard) whereas Smart Animate works with Artboards. When Smart Animate is triggered you navigate to another Artboard, so that’s why it needs a click to go back, which I’m perfectly aware is not the expected hover interaction.

We saw this when working with Smart Animate and it’s something we want to improve but we don’t have a definite time to work on it.

But you can recreate it with an Overlay, without having to click again. Set the prototype link to trigger on hover and choose Dissolve as the animation option

The downside is that you’ll need one extra Artboard for each hover, which can become cumbersome as your project grows.

I hope this helps
