Concern expired account for viewing guests

I’ve just run into this issue. My client has just contacted me, worried they will not be able to view and comment on a set of concepts when their trial expires in a few days. I’ve explained that the trial is just for the full version of Sketch and they shouldn’t experience any issues viewing and commenting, but it feels unprofessional to have to do this.

A simple stop-gap solution would be to change the language used on the trial sign-up page, so it’s absolutely clear that it’s a 30 day trial of the full version and anyone signing up to VIEW concepts can continue to use the service indefinitely.

I’ve been sharing concepts via Sketch for years and have only just run into these issues. Did something change over the past 12 months? It just seems way clunkier and frankly annoying now!

Hey @Jonathan808 ,

I’m sorry to hear about the issue, this shouldn’t be happening.

Currently, if a guest signs up by clicking the “Accept Invitation” button in the invitation email, there should be no indication of a 30-day trial limit.

Of course, there are other ways your client could have ended up in this situation—and I agree that this can lead to confusion. Perhaps they proactively created a trial account or a workspace?

We’ll continue to review our onboarding and sharing processes and will also look into this case to make sure we make this smoother for everyone.

“Did something change over the past 12 months? It just seems way clunkier and frankly annoying now!”

Nothing has changed regarding this process. But please let us know if there’s a specific part of it that we should take a closer look at.

That’s good to know. This is probably related to a previous issue I had a few weeks ago, where clicking ‘accept invitation’ in the email resulted in a 404. The only way to progress was to follow the sign up link and create the trial account. I tested the issue myself with a different email address after my client end up in that situation.

My question is: when my client’s 30 day trial runs out in a couple of day time, will they have any issues viewing the concepts I’ve shared with them, and which they are viewing via that trial account?

Your customer will not lose access to your work. Here’s what will happen:

Your customer will lose access to their own trial workspace, which is likely empty since they probably haven’t created or saved any documents in it.

They are likely more interested in the documents that have been shared from your workspace. They will still have access to those specific documents as guests.

It will look a bit like this (see top left for guest workspace and under All Documents they can find the work that you’ve shared.
