The redesign of the last redesign

I understand the “tabs in sidebar” thing, but I cannot say how much I miss the document title in the toolbar/titlebar area. (1) because I look there all the time to see what document i’m working on and (2) I right-click on document names to see and jump to the folders they are stored in… I also rename documents there frequently — macOS has a lot of built in functionality that people expect when it comes to titlebars and toolbars, it’s not always wise to forge your own path and perhaps not even realize all the built-in functionality you lose.

I’m annotating that idea, thanks! Can’t promise much here, but it’s something I’m including in our repo so our Product team can review it :person_bowing:

I have the same issue (as I’m sure many other do).. we rely on using a corporate color palette based on a custom library component that we all share that provides the color names that are used for quick identification and also used for development teams when coding. This worked well before - now it defaults to a freeform color selector which is useless.. and clicking a tab every time is also useless. So.. I was relieved to see I can use the ‘Option key+icon click’ for ‘less clicks’ to get to the list - but now I have to use ‘2 hands’ and find the shortcut key on the keyboard every time. This is a kludge! Not discoverable!
Compounding this is that it only works on Shapes. Not on text! Please fix this ASAP.
Who thought removing the ‘color variables’ icon was a good idea??

  • not sure how much more of this we can take..

I switched back to the older version a while back to get work done. If I have time to waste I’ll look at the latest version to test it out more.. however every time it’s just an exercise in disappointment. The color variables disaster mentioned above is a dealbreaker for us.. so we are waiting for resolution to this problem and the clock is ticking…

One thing I noticed. today when I had trouble finding the ‘Create version’ button in the drop down.. why is it so hard to find now? Then I realized the menu was iconified - with too many cluttered icons. Very DISTRACTING! Now users have to decode the meaning of each icon.. Much faster to scan actual words. With the blanket icon approach to everything, you are bound to run into esoteric labels that can’t be iconified.. so eliminate those. Also if there are highly used items in the list an icon might help as a signpost for faster scanning. But endless icons are just overwhelming and hard to stop your eyes from wandering and fixating on a symbol to decode. Use the 5-second rule: if it takes you more than 5 seconds to think of an appropriate icon for something, it is unlikely that an icon can effectively communicate that meaning.

I wish I could say I’m happy with you guys but I’m not!

Bugs are still here… interface is terrible.

Color problems are a huge downside. Overrides are buggy too - when replacing one thing in an instance, the color changes and other info resets… such a waste of time cause I have to redo changes again and again… the entire principle of using symbols gets lost.

The panels go bananas sometimes pushing the fill colors and other settings all the way down below the screen… I have to scroll a huge empty space to find the options again or just reopen the app.

App crashes a lot! Most when docs start to grow large and even more when you insist in “helping me” to convert group to frames.

I also can’t save my layout / grid as default… no matter what I do! - everytime I start a new project or insert a new frame/artboard I have to set my layout grid again… yes I know about templates but huge waste of time as it should be my default saved layout grid!

And, not specifically related to the last version, WHY do I have to work on the files on the cloud to mirror my designs in the sketch iOS app? Why don’t you guys allow us to work on the same network and mirror the files as in the old iOS Mirror app? It makes no sense…

Last but not least, please bring back the previous way of doing quick things like creating a hover state! Now it’s much more demanding and not practical.

Thanks.

Hi Mica,

I’m sorry to hear you’ve run into these issues. I’ll go separately through each one. For some of them, I’d like to ask for your help sharing with us some sample files, so we can reproduce the scenarios that are causing you trouble.

You can share any additional details/sample files to our support address: productsupport@sketch.com

1.Color problems and overrides

If possible, can you share a sample file with the symbols that are causing the problem? From what you mention that some color changes when replacing, it can be a simple solution, like applying a tint. But it depends on how your symbol is built.

2.Panel behavior

In this case too, having a sample symbol that causes this problem can help a lot identify it, I hope its possible

3.App crashes

This definitely shouldn’t happen. Have you sent any crash reports? When you relaunch after a crash, you’ll see a window asking if you want to share the crash information. This is very helpful to identify the cause and fix it

4.Default Layout and Grid

I found the bug. I’ll file it so we can look into it. Thanks for reporting. I found a workaround that will help in the meantime:

  • Switch on and off the default settings toggle when you save your settings.

5.File mirroring

Mirroring on the web solved connectivity issues that persisted in the old app. Of course, I get that you prefer local mirroring.

6.Creating hover states

Just to confirm: is this about the new panel interface/flow for prototyping, or is it about something else? If it’s the former, can you tell us where this interface is causing issues?

Many thanks for taking the time to report this.

You don’t have to keep struggling with this — it might be worth considering an alternative option. I’ve been using Sketch since around version 50 and eventually switched after version 102 due to recurring issues like bugs, performance problems, and new features that often felt under-tested and made daily work more difficult.

These patterns have been consistent over time — features frequently ship with bugs or incomplete testing, and the team seems to depend heavily on user feedback after release. I used to participate in beta versions and reported many problems, but it was discouraging to see many of them go unfixed in the final builds. I still use Sketch occasionally to maintain old projects, and I’m here today because I encountered a very simple bug that really shouldn’t exist if stronger quality control were in place.

Hi folks, we’ve decided to close this thread.

We do continue to welcome constructive feedback and do seriously consider it — the next major update is around the corner and contains around 200 fixes and enhancements, many as a result of user feedback. We’ll continue to fix what’s broken, and change course when we’ve made mistakes, to the extent of our capacity as a not-huge team.

That said, at this point this thread has become a dumping ground for assorted comments, which isn’t being productive or constructive. If you have individual bugs or feedback to share, please do open new threads in Share an issue or Suggest an idea — it help us to help you to be specific rather than making catch-all threads.
