Sketch preview behavior changed – no longer zooms to fit design?

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed a behavior change in the latest version of Sketch. Previously, when using Artboards, the ‘Fit’ option in the preview would automatically zoom the design to fit the screen and allow me to scroll through the entire design – which was really helpful (as shown in the screenshot below).

When I create new project using Frames, the ‘Fit’ option still zooms out to show the full length of design (as shown in the screenshot below).

Is this an intentional change or a bug? Is there any setting or workaround to bring back the scrollable ‘Fit’ behavior?

Appreciate any insight, thanks!

Hey Ruchi, welcome to the Forum.

This is a change in the latest Sketch version. Here’s a summary of the changes in prototyping:

  • Only content out of bounds of the frame will scroll. This also means that frames no longer scroll just by making them taller. This is the default scrolling mode.
  • You can define a viewport by setting the scroll mode to Custom. This mode allows you to define a viewport and anything beyond the viewport width or height will scroll. This is how scrolling in artboards worked
  • Only top level frames support the Frame/Custom setting.
  • Nested frames support scrolling too, the frame’s size is always the viewport and out of bounds contents will scroll

For the case shown in the video, try changing the Scrolling mode on the top level frame to “Custom”

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions

Hey Jorge, thanks a lot, that really helped!
