Sidebar > automatically expand groups to remain open

If “Views > Sidebar > automatically expand groups” is enabled, would like for that group folder to remain open when clicking away.

Hey @fyonnetti

Thanks for sharing and welcome to the forum!

Personally, I like the current behavior, but I’m curious to hear what others think about it.

Hi @jonne,
That’s fair, and I do see the benefit of that behavior.

The reason for my suggestion is, I’ll have an object that I want to reorder in the sidebar layers panel. I’ll click an object, on the canvas, to where I want to move it next to, in order to reveal its position in the sidebar. Problem is, the new location is grouped within groups, so when I grab the layer I want to move, the position I want to move to collapses and I can no longer see where I want it to go. This forces me to drill down in the layers panel manually as opposed to a quick drag and drop.

I’m afraid I don’t fully understand your case. The case you’re describing seems possible now. Would you mind sharing a video of what you want to achieve? Thanks!

Hey @jonne
In the video, I want to drag the “table > Oval” layer to the “detail sidebar > linked > linked items” group. So, I first select an object on the canvas in the “linked items” group to display its position in the sidebar. Then I select the Oval to drag it there, but the “detail sidebar” group collapses before I can.

Thanks for taking the time to make a video, I get it now! (And Noted.)

I usually use the LL, but I can see a use for it. The most logical way would then be to add an option next to View > Sidebar > Automatically Expand Groups for this behavior.

I agree. If the option gets added, next to “View > Sidebar > Automatically Expand Groups” would be the best place for it.

Thanks for your feedback.
