New Mac beta: 2025.1 (Athens) available now

Hey! Thank you for sharing. Yes, so Frames are the successor to Artboards. It is a container that will dynamically adjust your content, and all layers inside will be a fixed width and height, and will be pinned to the top-left by default.

If you hold down the command key, and resize, you can adjust the container without the content inside moving around. We are adding a ‘mode’ to make this easier to work with. Hopefully that solves your needs.

Groups are still groups which you use to organise your layers. Graphics is a new type of container that is perfect for icons and illustrations. These don’t have the smarts of pinning or sizing content - but they will resize contents proportionally.

It takes a little getting used to, I have to admit, but we believe in the long term benefits.

When trying to update I keep getting an error saying the update couldn’t be completed because of a problem, preventing me from updating at all. Wifi is stable (my Uni’s encrypted network). Any idea for workarounds? I’ll send a feedback email if I can’t get it working within the hour.

Can you send a screenshot of this error to productsupport@sketch.com, please? Someone from the team can look into this and figure out what’s going on for you!

I’m writing the email as we speak write! I’ll also attach the logs from Console.app since I imagine it may be hard to reproduce.

Actually never mind, the 12th times the charm, who said doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result wouldn’t work?

Just seeing this, haven’t opened it yet, but YESSSS!!!

I’m not sure how to create a button symbol that resizes depending on the label length. I create a button as a stack and it works well but when I create symbol it doesn’t work anymore. I tried changing layout properties but nothing helped.

Absolutely LOVE the 2025.1 versioning, especially with the [Athens] naming! Easy win, low-maintenance power-boost, and a beta worthy of the flex.

Roadmap · Sketch :eyes: Time for another little update
Also can’t wait to see what fills the columns next, though current beta is the big kahuna.

Okay time to go wreck ship in the beta, and produce mountains of bug reports/feature requests.

P.s…(from old beta thread) – my original interpretation of “new beta” was correct, much to my delight muhaha.

Can you share a sample document with us? This should be pretty easy :eyes:

Hello, first time posting in this forum :upside_down_face:

I hope this is the right place for just additions to the new stacks feature. (If not, I am more than willing to respond in an email instead.)

  1. Wrapping of elements is pretty much the only feature functionally that stacks are missing, which would make this more in line with developing applications for Apple devices but also for designing websites. Both Framer and Figma have these features implemented so far so adding it to Sketch would make perfect sense

  2. The ability to add layout to multiple frames at once. As currently when you select multiple frames and you press the Add Layout button, it wraps that selection into a stack rather than applying the stack property to each one of them. This is a problem I see a lot of people facing in Figma that actually requires an entire plugin in order to do this action.

  3. Negative gap between elements, which is funny because that doesn’t quite exist in CSS, but it does become very useful when trying to align elements that overlap with each other without having to wrap them into an object with a fixed width. Although I do understand if this feature is not added to better relate to real life coding situations

  4. An option for rotated objects to keep their bounding areas and not clip contents. I suggest this as a toggle because sometimes this is actually quite useful for the objects not to interfere when rotated, but sometimes it is nice to have them as well.

  5. The ability to force frames to respect the aspect ratio that they are currently in. This is quite easily understood to be a very useful feature when trying to keep images from automatically cropping themselves or stretching where you would want images to simply look the same aspect ratio at all times.

Hey Raul. First of all thank you for all of your efforts. It’s very intuitive, easy to understand and fast. But I’ve few questions.

I couldn’t create simple button depending on length too. It works well in symbol source. But instance not respecting the stack properties. Strange.

@wwwedran @yeb - there is a known issue regarding Symbol instances and Stacks, but thank you for providing some extra documents for context.

Welcome! Thank you for your feedback. Of course you may share your requests here, it is super valuable.

  1. Wrapping will come soon after the initial release. We know we definitely need it but needed to make our project more manageable, rather than 100% of everything on the first version.
  2. This is interesting to know - thank you.
  3. Negative gap is the same situation as wrap above!
  4. Right, I see what you mean, yes. Clipping is a checkbox you can toggle but I think I would agree with you the bounding box should draw like in your screenshot.

Some miscellaneous feedback after playing about with the beta on a train yesterday.

  • Grabby handles for stack padding are a bit too large, making manual scaling more fiddly than it needs to be, I find myself accidentally adding padding to the stack

  • The change to the corner radius grabby thing is a little bit of downgrade, I’m not sure why it’s changed.

  • Adding a stack to an existing symbol renames it to “Symbol” - might be a known bug

  • Selecting a mixture of frames and graphics and the dropdown at the top of inspector should probably say “mixed”

I’ve also run into the bug with stack instances not respecting sizing changes mentioned above.

Thank you for the feedback

  • Yes, there’s plans to have new, smaller handles for stacks, and to improve where and when they should appear. The current ones are lifted from smart layout currently
  • Corner handle: Interesting, could you elaborate on why you think it feels worse?
  • Renaming to Symbol: This is a bug, yes - good catch thank you
  • Agree - it should say Mixed.

Awesome feedback, thank you so much!

Small detail: This icon should change its appearance, not just color. Applies to all other icons that change state, for easier use.

RE: the corner radius handle, it’s not the end of the world, but firstly they’re visually incongruent with the other controls for spacing and the new padding handles - but having it appear on a single corner rather than the four was not offensive IMO and meant the control was always in view, say if I’m zoomed in and at the bottom of a long container, the radius control is still within reach.
It’s also pretty good communication of the ability to interactively round individual corners, yes you still need to press cmd to do it. But this kind of feels like it “If it ain’t broke” kind of thing. Unless you had some private feedback to the contrary that compelled the change. Again, not the biggest thing ever, just a minor step backward.

On the padding handles, it’s actually fine if some kind of initial padding has been inherited on stack creation - but glad to hear it’s getting some more looking at

Also to @wwwedran’s point, right now we also have two link/lock icons now - with dimensions it’s a lock and the new padding input, we have the more “traditional” chain link icon. These should probably be the same, and probably the chainlink for widht/height - in addition to stronger signposting of it being engaged

Hi there,

I’m very excited about this beta, coming from Figma I’ve missed this feature tremendously!
A few things:

  • Missing min and max width for stacks
  • Missing negative gap between elements
  • Hiding a stacked element in a stack is buggy when trying to display it again
  • It would be nice to keep the name of the group when stacking an existing group

Last but not least: there’s definitely something not working properly regarding stack symbols - you seem to be aware of this problem.
I’d say this is the most annoying problem so far.

Hey Alice!

Thanks for the feedback! We’re aware of these issues (some of the features will come in a later version of the feature!).

We’ll try to keep you guys updated on the Beta progress and new updates as they come along.

Excited to test this out. Heavy stack user back in Framer X days. Im glad I joined this forum just a few days ago. Perfect timing

Congrats everyone!

3 symbols set to fit content width
each of those is 1 symbol that contains a symbol icon and text
that icon symbol I have duplicated and swap between for each of the USPs.

When adding in a new icon from outside the frame, the symbol completely breaks. It needs placing in which breaks it, and then wiggling around after placed to fix and realise it has something in. Sending in a loom video too

And after wiggling around in the icon symbol:
