I am so frustrated with the layers in the sidebar. I just want them to align. I’ve tried dragging and dropping, holding the spacebar when I drag and drop. This there a shortcut I need to learn? I try moving the frame to the top of the list and dropping in the frame container. Why don’t the just call it an artboard? Frames inside of frames is confusing. My files are so disorganized. And the sidebar randomly goes to another frame container (aka artboard) if I click on the frame container background.
I usually just use groups, but I am trying the frame concept out. I have the same nesting issue with groups, can’t get them to align. Some just appear to randomly auto nest.
I am not getting anywhere with it, after a futile effort, I just abandon it and move on, leaving myself with a disorganized mess. I feel like I have to learn a whole new system. Getting upgrades is nice I guess, but it is such a huge shift that it is impacting my workflow so much and not in a good way.
The alignment issue I’m pretty sure is just a bug at the moment. I’m surprised someone from sketch hasn’t replied about that yet. I have the issue too and it’s a nightmare really as you can easily think frames are children of other frames, when they’re not.
I assume, like me, that in your screenshot the listed frames are all actually at the same level (no matter what the sidebar is telling us)
I tend to use a mixture of frames and groups still. You can still make groups with CMD+G. You can convert your frames to groups also by selecting the frame and then in the top of the right-sidebar, there’s a drop-down under ‘frame’ where you can select Group or Graphic.
Yes, all the frames in my screen capture should be the same level, but I simply cannot move them to another level. It does seem like a bug, seems like they would want to fix it ASAP. Or there is a shortcut I need to learn. Mac app shortcuts · Sketch I’ve tried spacebar. If anyone knows the shortcut, please let me know what it is. Thanks!
Hello @lalaprojects and @SketchUser, thanks for reporting. I’ve taken the liberty of moving this case into the Share an issue category. Sorry, we didn’t see this before
This sounds like a bug, based on your description and the order and disposition of the Frames shown in the Layer List. We have solved some related issues in Copenhagen (currently on 2025.3.1). Could you update (Sketch > Check for updates) and let me know if that makes any difference?
In any case, I would like to know more about this specific case. Could you share that document? I would like to know the types of actions you’re following here and the results versus expectations for those actions, to better understand what is going wrong here.
If you prefer, you can send the document and your impressions to productsupport@sketch.com, or answer to this thread, whatever you prefer!
The file I was working with was older, and it was saved on my local machine. I did another update and saved the file to the cloud, and now the layers are cooperating, yay!!! I wonder if the older file was causing the issue? So glad it is resolved. Thanks for paying attention to these chat forums!
