I know Sketch is primarily for static design and prototyping, but I was wondering if anyone here is using it (or combining it with other tools) to design microinteractions or motion mockups?
I’ve tried integrating with Principle and After Effects, but curious if there’s a Sketch-native workflow or plugin that helps simulate things like button ripple effects, hover animations, or transitions.
How are you handling motion in your design handoffs these days?
I’ve used AEUX in the past to export from Sketch to After Effects, but it was really quirky. Nowadays I tend to export PNG’s and SVG’s and do it manually, but I would like a good alternative.
After Effects is really powerful, but their UI feels like it is stuck in the 90ies. It would be so much better if they had a decent canvas (like Sketch) that would help you align, move and resize things, see the gap between objects in pixels, alter the properties like fills/borders/effects and so on.
There is also Lottielab and Jitter, but both are Figma orientated:
I still swear by Principle, one of the best tools imo for mocking up interactions and to communicate those ideas to developers. It’s not developed as much as before, but there are still occasional updates. It’s not for motion design, though.
I was always curious what would happen if Principle and Sketch were either one product or more closely integrated.
Hey folks, just a heads up about AEUX: the original plugin doesn’t quite work with Sketch 2025.1, but I’ve updated it in my own fork Releases · rodionovd/AEUX · GitHub
