Hi, I think the idea of artboard template inspiration is a really good idea. But unfortunately this does not develop further and so it remains on a status of a few mostly unusable templates. I think it would be cool if, for example, the car dashboard display from the Sketch landing page is also available, so that you can check how the gradients or shadows were created. I also miss more state-of-the-art app designs or landing page components. I would be happy if there would be something like this.
Hi Phillip!
Thanks for the suggestion! We are actually putting together a collection of resources which we aim to release soon which will include some sample documents and a number of libraries to both help users learn how to achieve certain results, and also to assist in the work that they are doing. I think that should check the boxes that youâre looking for here so do stay tuned (and donât worry, you wonât miss them - theyâll be available in the Mac app when available! )
OhhâŚmight your upcoming collection(s) be shared via an extensible system, so that others can contribute files that are accessible via the same distribution method that youâll be using?
@tim mentioned this about 2 years ago â soon
P.s. Iâm all for it containing Marketplace functionality. Plugins would be a lovely addition to such a system as well.

From Roadmap ¡ Sketch FAQ:
Is this all youâre working on? Nothing else?
Weâll try and be as open as we can here. This covers our biggest focuses and priorities, but this isnât everything. There will be smaller things that arenât so newsworthy and also things we have to keep a secret (who doesnât like a surprise once in a while?). Donât forget â weâre a small team, and we like to stay focused to get things right!
Iâve been hoping that inclusion wasnât designed to instill a false sense of hope. A file/template/library/plugin community/marketplace would be an epic inclusion alongside Stacked Layout and nestable frames Artboards.
The answer to this is both yes and no. Technically, all that weâre using to share our files is the same public documents feature that every Workspace has. If you share a public document (and enable download permissions) with someone outside your Workspace, theyâll see one of two things depending on if theyâre signed in to a Workspace or not:
This all exists and is available to use right now. At the same time, we know this is a long way off what folks expect from community/sharing/marketplace etc.
Definitely not the case, and I can tell you that with certainty because I wrote it! There are things weâre working on which we canât share, for all sorts of reasons. Iâm sure youâll understand when I say I canât really explain more than that
In general, though, another quote I can pull out from those FAQs is equally important:
Our plans can change and sometimes ideas just donât work out as we expected originally.
This happens often. Itâs normal and natural. Our priorities change â sometimes because we explore something and realize itâs more work than can reasonably fit in the time we have, sometimes external factors influence things, sometimes we start working on something and itâs just too tricky to solve without first putting other pieces in place.
One of the reasons we released the roadmap was to provide a bit more transparency. If something is in the âdevelopingâ column itâs very likely it will ship in the not-too-distant future. If something is in the âalmost readyâ column, then itâs almost certain it will ship soon. If itâs in âexploringâ we canât be certain ourselves. Itâs exactly that, exploring.
When Tim wrote his reply, we were in that exploring stage of community files. Iâd be lying if I said weâre actively exploring it right in this moment, but we know how impactful it would be. Itâs definitely something we still want to build. We shipped some very early infrastructure for it (the buttons I mention above) but thereâs a lot more to consider, especially when think about a paid marketplace (where the challenges are not just technical, but also impact us financially and legally).
Anyway, Iâve said a lot here, but wanted to give you as much transparency as I can into how we juggle the many, many feature requests we get (alongside our own ideas!).
If I were you guys, Iâd focus much more on the free aspect of a platform like this. The social and mindshare capital of gathering a centralised place for these resources is probably more valuable long term that financially via saleable assets. Itâs a fairly saturated market.
Iâd certainly be down to create and share files on such a platform
Thatâs great to hear! And honestly, yes, our initial focus would be on a platform for free resources. Weâre just not in a position to focus on that yet.
I disagree. Not only would the platform weâre describing be expensive to create and maintain, but I also want Sketch to get $$$ so that they can start firing on all cylinders.
I do agree that Sketch themselves shouldnât sell anything on said platform. But many high quality creators will simply not create or maintain high quality content to distribute within an internal Sketch community unless thereâs a paid option to incentivize their time and effort. Sketch should of course get a cut of all payments. Win-win-win. Creators get money. Sketch gets money. Users get high quality options that wouldnât have existed otherwise.
And obviously plenty of people will distribute free content as well. It just shouldnât be the only option for creators.
The idea that most things should be free in digital environments is a damaging misinterpretation of reality. That said, many transactions that occur online are overly predatory in nature. Thereâs a balance that should be understood and respected.
I think all of this is a great illustration of why we havenât made a move yet. At the most fundamental thereâs âdo we create a paid marketplace or not?â. If we do, what commission (if any) do we take? How do we incentivize good resources, rather than creating a space for grifters? Is there an approval process for quality control? How do we manage IP infringement and abuse? And then of course, like I say, thereâs tax and financial implications for us if we go down the route of opening a paid marketplace.
All of these problems (and more!) have been solved before, by others, sure. But every company is different. Weâre a lot smaller than most folks imagine, and weâre not wanting to scale up massively and unsustainably in the hopes it will all work out in the end.
Anyway â like I say â a great illustration of why we havenât jumped on this already! Not to say weâre not thinking about it or considering other approaches, though.
It could be easier, sketch is the author of the âSketch Resourcesâ and in order to be able to occasionally offer new state of the art designs, Sketch is creating a competition whose winner receives a prize for the use of the file. Iâm not interested in another marketplace, therefor are for example envanto, ui8 or yellow images. Iâm interested in assets or maybe interactions/animations, it also could be the tutorial file, that provide new creative freedom. Like the status quo of âartboard template inspirationâ its great but Unfortunately it doesnât develop any further.
Hopefully what @Keir mentioned earlier will suit your needs!
