Just updated to Sketch 99.1 from 93, and it seems these functions broke in the plugins Symbol Organizer and Automate. There’s this plugin for removing unused styles, but nothing for symbols that I’ve found. Can anyone recommend a working plugin with a ‘Remove unused symbols’ function? I desperately need it back.

Thanks a ton for reaching out! Updating from 93 to 99.1 is a huge leap in terms of updates; during the different versions, we rolled out a lot of cool features as well as a ton of bug fixes. Unfortunately, some plugins over time have either lost some functionality or stopped working altogether.
I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with Symbols, especially with removing unused ones, now that the plugin has stopped working. I do have a workaround for this, but it only works if your symbols are stored locally and not in a Library:
If you select all your symbols from the Symbols page and press backspace to delete them, when you get the dialogue box asking Are you sure you want to delete these Symbols, press Cancel and the unused symbols will stay deleted! You will still have the option to revert those changes by pressing cmd + Z!
