Plugin saves PNG in 24 bit format now, before it was 32

Hi guys,

in Sketch 66 I had 32 bits PNG by default and whole workflow is designed to handle 32 bit PNG,

now (with Sketch 2025.1.3) I have 24 bit PNG which will not work for me.

Please tell me how to return back 32 bit PNG.

Hey Max,

Thanks for the report.

We’ll pass the comments to the team and see what they say! We’ll also check when the color depth changes were introduced and try to find out why!

Edit

Alright, we have spoken with the team and we have not really changed anything related to the export of PNGs from the Mac app. This process relies on Apple’s mechanism to export these and we don’t really control (nor have a setting) to reduce or change the Color Depth values.

From what we can see it seems the OS is making some different decisions on how to export these PNGs, but we’d a need a bigger sample to understand what is going on exactly. If you can share a zip file with all these (old and new) affected PNGs that could give us a good starting point to start said investigation and try to find out what might be happening.

We’d also love to get more context and information about your current workflow, and where these 24bit exports are falling short of your expected outcome. The more details we can get, the better we can formulate and even think about possible solutions.

Thanks a ton in advance for your time!

Hi Raul, I have sent you a link to the files in PM.

I use them to teach my AI models. All software in AI models/pipelines is adjusted to process 32 bit PNG (all algos and stuff). It will be very hard for me to re-adjust everything because a lot of stuff trained to handle 32 bits PNGs.

Please help to export PNG in 32 bits.

p.s. If not possible I think I will make it work on 24 bits too because I do not use transparency at the moment, but:

  1. I need to retrain all the models (6 yers of previous work)
  2. If I need to introduce transparency, I have to redo everything again or add support for 32 and 24 which is just a mess and it doesn’t give me any advantages, only source or errors.

So, I would prefer to have 32 bits as it used to be and forget about 24 bits (as it was until yesterday).

p.s.: Right, forgot to mention that I do not use Sketch for design, I created a plugin for Sketch which helps me with creating training data sets for my AI models.
